HOW DO TECTONIC WAVES PROPAGATE?
This animation demonstrates propagation of tectonic waves from the epicenter of an imminent earthquake before strong earthquakes. Earth's seismically active zones are shown in red. The green dots are ATROPATENA earthquake forecast stations.
To rotate Earth around its axis, use the arrow keys on the keyboard. To start a tectonic wave, click the left mouse button on seismically active areas painted red.
When a tectonic wave's front passes under a station, the station’s dot changes its color from green to yellow.
YYou can simulate various situations and see the sequence in which the stations will be registering tectonic waves coming from different epicenters. You can activate several epicenters simultaneously to witness a more complex tectonic wave propagation pattern.
